Slab work (or slab building) in pottery is a hand-building technique where clay is rolled into flat, even sheets (slabs) and cut to shape before being assembled into functional or sculptural forms. It is ideal for creating angular shapes, like boxes and tiles, or for creating curved structures by draping soft slabs over molds.
Heather uses slab work to create many different pieces. From imprinted and raised texture plates and dishes for knickknacks or bows, boxes, or adding objects to other works of art, slab work is essential to pottery and has its place in all aspects of ceramics.
